Abstract

A total of 30 germplasm of chilli were used to study the association between yield and yield attributes. Yield/plant was significantly and positively correlated with number of fruits/plant and fruit weight. Significant negative association of days to first fruit harvest with number of fruits/plant and yield/plant revealed selection aimed to improve yield and yield associated characters. Fruit weight showed significant negative correlation with number of fruits/plant and positive correlation with fruit length. Path analysis of yield and its components revealed that number of fruits/plant, fruit weight and fruit girth had direct positive effect on yield plant. When correlation and path analysis were viewed together, it revealed that yield improvement in chilli can be achieved by selection for number of fruits/plant, days to first fruit harvest and fruit weight.
