Abstract

The studies were undertaken with 2 lines and 7 testers to find out the general combining ability (gca) and specific combining ability (sca) in a line × tester analysis in spinach. Variances due to gca and sca indicated presence of non-additive effect for stalk length and leaf size but both additive and non-additive for yield. Longstanding was best general combiner in lines, while Hoyo was among testers. Of the 3 best crosses comprising of one or both the parents having, high gca, Virginia Savoy × Achille was best specific combiner to produce F1 hybrids.
