The studies were undertaken to find out optimum concentration of BAP using quadratic model. Shoots (0.5–1.0 cm long) from in-vitro proliferated plants of 5 Citrus species, viz. C. madurensis, C. volkameriana, C. sinensis, C. limon and Poncirns trifoliata × C. sinensis (Troyer citrange) were cultured in MS supplemented with varying concentrations of BAP and kinetin. Morphological observations recorded 4 weeks after culture initiation indicated that there was a significant interaction between species and cytokinins, and species and concentration. Among species C. volkameriana recorded highest plant weight, while C. limon recorded lowest plant weight. BAP was a better cytokinin for shoot proliferation, whereas kinetin for producing a fewer but healthier plantlets. The optimum concentration of BAP for producing maximum shoots was worked out using quadratic response equation. Troyer citrange responded to a high level of BAP, while C. sinensis (malta) responded to a relatively low level of BAP.
