Abstract

The experiment was conducted to increase the shelf-life of fruits without disturbing the qualitative characters. Different treatments performed well under various qualitative parameters. However, considering the overall period of ripening with respect to qualitative characters and economics, it. was found that fruits treated with maleic hydrazide (500 ppm) and packed in polyethylene bags with 1% vent can be stored up to 14 days. This method was most cost effective costing about Rs 6/kg of fruits.
