Abstract

An effort was made to understand the implicated role of plant hormones in regulating physiological processes by monitoring the endogenous hormone concentrations during its developmental stages in fruits of 3 low-chilling pear cultivars, viz. Gola, Pant Pear 17 and Tumariya, from distinct groups of productivity and fruit quality. The IAA and ABA levels were higher in the initial stages, decreased to lower levels and then increased as the fruit attained maturity. The concentrations of these hormones varied distinctly among ail the cultivars. It is thus, only logical to deduce that these plant bioregulators have some role to play in regulating fruit quality and perhaps, even yield. Also differential levels of certain unidentified compounds detected in the HPLC chromatograms point towards a similar conclusion.
