Abstract

A field study with 88 diallel analysis (without reciprocals) in pea (Pisum sativum L.) at Ranchi indicated that the mean square for general combining ability (gca) were higher than those of specific combining ability (sca) in all characters except plant height and 10-pod weight. Arka Ajeet showed highest general combining ability for 3 characters including number of pods/plant and plant height. Bonneville recorded higher general combining ability for pod yield/plant, number of pods/plant and for earliness. Cross combination Arka Ajeet × Bonneville recorded highest specific combining ability for pod yield/plant and number of pods/plant followed by PMR 20 × KS 136.
