Abstract

In seedless grape breeding, ovule age (post pollination) for embryo rescue varies with the grape genotypes. Ovule age of 24 DAP (days after pollination) was found best for Perlette and Beauty Seedless & Perlette genotypes and 28 days for Bharat Early and Beauty Seedless × Bharat Early genotypes by recording maximum embryo rescue and germination. Embryos of Beauty Seedless when selfed failed to germinate due to early abortion, i.e. even before 16 days age. However, Beauty Seedless embryos could be rescued and germinated successfully by crossing with seeded (Bharat Early) or seedless (Perlette) genotypes.
