Abstract

The present studies were undertaken to determine the effect of five different tree canopy volume (81.8, 93.6, 107.6, 125.0 and 145.0 m3) on physico chemical characters of fruits in guava cv. Sardar. A progressive increase in fruit size, weight and seed number per fruit was observed with increase in tree canopy volume. The per cent TSS, however, did not show a consistent trend with the tree size and found maximum in the fruits of trees with 107.6 m3 canopy volume. The per cent fruit acidity showed a significant increase but TSS/acid ratio decreased significantly with increase in tree canopy volume. The vitamin C content was found the highest in fruits obtained from trees with the lowest. The correlation coefficient between tree size and different quality characteristics have also been estimated.
