Abstract

About 13.95 per cent of Khasi mandarin fruits gets damaged during the process of handling and marketing. In order to reduce these losses, standardization of maturity indices and post-harvest treatments are very much required for Khasi mandarin as it is one of the most important commercial fruit crops of north-east India. The fruits harvested at 230 days after flowering had all the desirable qualities. However, the fruits harvested at 250 days after flowering were also good in respect of some parameters. Days after flowering (230–250),TSS (>10°Brix), juice content (> 49.0%) and TSS: acid ratio (>12.0) might be considered as suggested maturity indices for Khasi mandarin. Among different post harvest treatments, stayfresh treated fruits had the longest shelf-life of 29 days at ambient conditions with lowest PLW and higher retention of ascorbic acid. Moreover, the fruits treated with different waxes looked attractive. The fruits with no treatment (control) could be kept for 19 days at ambient conditions.
