<p>Papaya is a multifaceted fruit crop of tropics and sub-tropics. It has a variety of uses, both as fresh fruit and value-added products in food, medicines, cosmetics and industrial products. Owing to its rich nutritional contents, it is relished by rich and poor-alike in raw and ripe forms almost all the year round. Besides, its role in economy of the tropical countries is well known.</p><p>The present book entitled “Papaya” is a valuable compilation of information on different aspects of papaya. This book covers 189 pages comprising 25 well planned chapters covering genetic resources, crop improvement, agronomy, nutrient management, pests and diseases, papain production, post-harvest technology, etc. The core aspect of the book is the exhaustive sections on genetics, cytogenetics and crop improvement, which are not well dealt in most of the earlier texts. The chapter on biotechnological advancements is slightly old and needs updating especially when transgenic evolution and commercial exploitation is a reality in Hawaii (USA) and elsewhere. The text is throughout crisp and concise. It is an excellent book, which contains lot of information on both basic and applied aspects of papaya. On the whole, a commendable job has been done and it is hoped that the book would be useful for students, teachers, researchers, fruit growers, entrepreneurs and papaya lovers. There are many typographical errors in the text, which need thorough correction in the revised edition.</p></sec></body></article></article></body></html>
