Abstract

An experiment was conducted in a partially modified greenhouse to standardize the cultural practices for sustainable production of rose cv. First Red. The plants grown in the growing medium consisting of 2 soil: 1 compost: 1 and at 40 kPa irrigation regime and supplied with 200 and 300 kg N and K2O/ha/yr respectively through fertigation (water soluble fertilizers), spraying of polyfed + micronutrients (2 g/l) at monthly interval from September to January + bending 6 weeks after planting (M 4); advanced flowering by about one month whereas floral characters viz., bud length, pedicel length and flower diameter were improved when sand was replaced by cocopeat and irrigation regime were maintained at 20 kPa (M-2). Maximum flower yield in respect of number of flowers/m2 per year and per month were recorded with medium combination Soil: 1 compost: 1 cocopeat at 40 kPa irrigation regime keeping all other inputs the same (M-5).
