Abstract

A study was conducted for estimation of gene effects for yield and its component characters in tomato. Six generations (parents, F1, F2, BC-1 and BC-2) for four crosses were developed and evaluated for yield and its component characters. The data were subjected to generation mean analysis to obtain information on additive effects, dominance effects and digenic epistatic interactions. The probable gene effects prevailing for various characters in each of the four crosses are discussed in light of their implications on choice of appropriate breeding methods for improvement.
