Abstract

Trial with four plating dates (16 and 31 October, 15 and 30 November) and four planting densities (30, 40, 50 and 60 bulbs of 8–9 cm circumference m−2) was conducted on growth and bulb/bulblet production in garden tulip cv. Apeldoorn. Planting bulbs on 15 November, recorded maximum bulb yield in terms of number (50.50 m−2) and weight (0.95 kg m−2) immediately followed by 31 October, recording 47.88 bulbs and 0.93 kg m−2. However, number and weight m−2 of bulblets was maximum with November 30 planting. Planting density of 60 m−2 recorded significantly more bulb number and bulb weight (1.12 kg m−2) over lower densities of 30, 40 and 50 bulbs m−2.
