Mathematics Error Patterns in Relation to Intelligence and Type of Schools

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between error in Mathematics, intelligence level of the students and the type of school. A sample of 138 students was randomly selected from PSEB (74) and CBSE (64) Government and private schools. The investigator personally met the participants and administered the tools. Standard Progressive Matrices prepared by Raven, Raven and Court (1989) and a self composed Mathematics test were used. Mean, SD and t-Test were used to analyse the data. The findings reveal that error pattern in mathematics committed by the students is not at all dependent on the intelligence level and the type of the school in which the students are studying but is due to the poor attention and different teaching techniques used.
