Abstract

Transgender is a group whose identity is beyond the notion of conventional gender structures. Mostly they possess male structure and female behavioural traits. Their life is complex with conflicts and mockeries. Their existential dilemma revolves around their neglected and unacknowledged sexual identity. Here the endeavour is to explore deep into the real sociological positions of transgender in Indian society. This paper is an attempt towards highlighting the present social status of transgenders and increase in their participation in all spheres of life in general and mainstream education in particular. The paper has analysed the present educational, social and employment status of transgender community in India. This study used only secondary data to explore sociological perspective of Third gender and intended to expose sufferings, discrimination and marginalization of transgender, to understand social position of transgender, to explain every day issues of transgender and to assess support system of transgender through the sociology of third gender.
