Abstract

The present paper seeks to assess the impact of open and distance learning on prison reforms in India. The researcher has visited sixteen (16) Jails in the state of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand and has interacted with the jail authorities and jail inmates on various issues of prison reforms. The study will also highlight the overcrowding, accommodation, access to education and professional/skill development, health, employment, security etc as the main concerns for prison reforms. The researcher will also study the impact of open and distance learning on the overall academic and professional/skill development of jail inmates.
