Experience of Hedonia and Eudaimonia through Social Support

Abstract

Today's youth are facing a number of problems ranging from career to relationships and at this phase of life perceived social support brings positive perspective towards one's life and positive experiences. The present study examines the relationship of three sources of perceived social support, namely, family, friends and significant others with hedonic and eudaimonic well-being. The sample comprised of 500 college students (250 boys and 250 girls, 18–22 years) who completed The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, Positive Affect Negative Affect Schedule, The Satisfaction With Life Scale and The Questionnaire for Eudaimonic Well-Being. Result revealed that all the three dimensions of perceived social support showed significantly positive relation with both hedonic and eudaimonic well-being in varying degree. Detail result and implications of the study have been discussed.
