The coronary heart disease (CHD) is a type of cardiovascular disease and it is a major cause of concern for departments of public health, clinicians, and the administration also. There may be several risk factors for CHD and personality happens to be one of the factors.
In view of the above, the present study was conducted to examine the personality characteristics of CHD patients and compare them with normal subjects to evaluate the role of personality in this disease.
A sample of 20 CHD patients and 100 normal subjects having middle SES was administered the 16 personality factors questionnaire. The descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data.
Results showed that CHD patients scored higher on A, F, M and O than the normal subjects. The two groups differed significantly on seven factors.
The personality patterns emerged as the risk factors for CHD. The results are thoroughly discussed and interpreted. The implications, limitations of the study and suggestions for future researches in this area are also offered.
