Abstract

Education is the basic source for the development of human potentials. Education has been the major concern for the governments of all the countries as education is the only factor which helps people in achieving the goals of life and competing with others. In India too, steps for reformation has been taken from time to time and new education policy 2020 is a radical step in this regard. The National Education Policy-2020 approved by the Modi Government on July 29 is seen by majority of people as a step towards transforming the education system in India replacing 34 year old national education policy. New NEP proposes numerous changes in the existing education system in our country. It emphasizes on creative education, scientific temper, research excellence, inclusive education, giving due importance to our national heritage, and reducing curriculum content (Nishank, 2020). The whole draft is divided into four parts. The system of 10 + 2 system has been has been replaced by 5+3+3+4 system. It has stimulated debate all over the country and as a result of it several suggestions and reactions have been expressed by the scholars and academic institutions. This paper is an attempt to throw sufficient light on the different aspects of NEP-2020 and present a critical evaluation also to underline the inherent limitations and challenges as well.
