Van der Woude syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by cleft lip and/or cleft palate and distinctive congenital lower lip pits with varying degrees of severity. It affects about 1 in 100,000–200,000 people with an equal predilection in both the genders. Because of the various functional and esthetic difficulties encountered, a multidisciplinary approach is required to rehabilitate the affected individuals. The current manuscript highlights various clinical features, etiological factors (genetic aspects), differential diagnosis, investigative procedures and management strategies of Van der Woude syndrome in an Indian female patient with a brief review of literature. The manuscript is expected to compliment to the knowledge and awareness of both the general and specialty practitioners in management of patients with Van der Woude syndrome.
