Sleep is important for health. It is recently recognized as a public health problem. However knowledge about sleep and sleep disorders during pregnancy by women and expectant mother is inadequate. Poor sleep is ubiquitous during pregnancy. Sleep is disturbed because hormonal imbalance, excitement, anxiety and sleeping positions. Gestational diabetes and hypertension may result from poor sleep. Poor sleep during pregnancy not only disturbs the physiology but also result in adverse pregnancy outcome. Proper sleeping position and adequate sleep are advised for positive pregnancy outcome and mother’s health.
