The conventional crestal implants (i.e. implants inserted from the top of the alveolar crest into the bone such as cylinders and blade implants) are indicated in situations where an adequate vertical bone is present. Although, crestal implants enjoy a high degree of success, their success is reduced in cases where bone augmentation procedures become part of the treatment. In addition, augmentation procedures increase the overall costs of dental implant treatment as well as the number of necessary operations. In such cases, basal implants is the viable treatment option where less vertical bone is available. This case report describes the case of basal implants placed in mandibular posterior region.
