Abstract

The aim of this study was to calculate the amount of molar distalization using buccal mini implants and a sliding J hook. The present study was conducted on maxillary arches of ten patients of either sex, within the age group of 12 to 20 years, requiring orthodontic therapy. Molar was distalized using mini implant and a sliding J hook to deliver a distalizing force of approximately 250 mg. Cephalometric and model analysis were done to measure skeletal and dental changes. Results showed that the mean amount of distalization achieved in upper molar was 3.65 mm in mean time of six months along with mean retraction of upper incisor of 1.55 mm. The results also showed an increase in values of intercanine, interpremolar and intermolar width with a mean of 0.76 mm, 1.82 mm and.74 mm respectively. Results also showed a highly significant mean distalization of 1st and 2nd premolar by 0.69 mm and 1.22 mm respectively. It was concluded that maxillary molar can be distalized efficiently with the help of buccal mini implant without any loss of anchorage in anterior segment.
