Adults are characterized by maturity, self-confidence, autonomy and solid decision-making. They are generally more practical, multi-tasking, purposeful, self-directed, experienced, less open-minded and receptive to change. All these traits affect their motivation, as well as their ability to learn and most important, the learning methodology. In that case the importance of self directed learning comes into play. Through this article we will discuss the adult learner's cognitive and social characteristics, and how & why they vary from a child learner. This will help us in creating the right course content, structure, and adjust their attitude.
