Strategy for management of operative surgical cases in covid-19 era - an emergence of “a new normal” in health care

Abstract

The whole world is facing an unprecedented period because of the SARS-COV2. All aspects of day to day life has been disrupted, especially, health care system as far reaching implications are present. To be safe, every patient reporting to our OPD is to be taken as COVID-19 positive till proven otherwise. Practice of surgery across the globe, in view of this is at a standstill as of now. When the surgical practices will resume, the world will see a surge in outpatient and inpatient visits in surgical department. There is urgent need for the new protocol to be implemented as the “New Normal” to combat the developing medical situation which are presently unknown and beyond the comprehension of the present medical “Think Tanks” of the world. This article focuses on the major changes which are required in surgical practice. It is based on scientific information from different authors all around the globe with the experience about transmission of virus, successful treatment modalities available and containment of the outbreak. The purpose of this article is to review recommendations of perioperative care to enhance staff and patient safety during this pandemic.
