COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2), is a highly contagious disease. The WHO (World Health Organization) has declared the ongoing outbreak to be pandemic on March 12, 2020. Currently, effective therapies for this virus are not available. The fast-growing knowledge regarding SARS-CoV-2 virology provides a substantial number of potential drug targets. The most promising therapy appears to be Remdesivir. This drug has potent in vitro activity against SARS-CoV-2 and is now approved by US Food and Drug Administration for its emergency use for treating COVID-19 patients. Based on current published evidence, this review systematically summarizes the pharmacological targeted treatment for COVID-19 which are on ongoing clinical trial.
