Abstract

With the advent of the year 2020, no-one could have possibly imagined this year to turn into an unexpected trail of events where the world would be collectively fighting a war against a virus. The corona virus disease 2019 (COVID19) was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization on March 11, 2020. It is believed to have originated from the seafood wholesale market in the city of Wuhan, China in December 2019. Due to the high transmission rate of the disease and gap in knowledge regarding the origin, spread, treatment measures and preventive actions for the same, it has led to an increase in the panic and anxiety among people. The situation has impacted people worldwide in various aspects ranging from monetary concerns to panic hoarding to psychological concerns. As for India, 1.3 billion people and the economy are at a standstill since March 2020 with no definitive understanding of the future. This paper aims to explore the psychological impact of Corona virus (COVID-19) on the world and in the Indian context.
