Lingual frenulum playing quite an important role. Obstruction in the tongue movement is often caused by a short and an adhered lingual frenulum, a condition often referred to as called ankyloglossia in texts.
This article aims to relate a case of ankyloglossia in a 28 year old male patient, diagnosed with Kotlow's type II ankyloglossia and treated by electrocautery assisted frenectomy.
Ankyloglossia in adults often leads to an obvious limitation of tongue protrusion, elevation and speech. The essential management of tongue tie includes timely surgical intervention followed by speech therapy if required; that would help in achieving pleasant results, in a short period of time. Electrocautery used for frenectomy procedure provides a good patient acceptance due to decreased postoperative pain and faster restoration of the function than that which is obtained by conventional methods.
