In today's era, the burden of diabetes has increased exponentially, due to rapid urbanization. Thus early identification of diabetes risk should be done to prevent and spread awareness regarding the same. Indian Diabetes Risk Score (IDRS) is a validated and cost effective tool to identify risk of type 2 diabetes among population.
To find diabetes risk in population of Ahmedabad using Indian diabetic risk score.
A cross sectional study was done in Ahmedabad. Data of 353 adult individuals was collected where the age ranges from 18–80 years. Both male and female filled the Indian diabetic risk score through Google form survey. An Indian Diabetes Risk Score screens for risk factors including age, waist circumference, physical activity, and family history.
According to conducted study the overall people at high risk of diabetes in Ahmedabad is 38.24% (135), 58.07% (205) are at moderate risk, and 3.68% (13) is at low risk. Out of 38.24% (135) who are at high risk of diabetes, from which 48.48% (66) belongs to the age group of 18–30. From total 353 individuals, 191(54.10%) of population has sedentary lifestyle and 153(43.34%) participants are overweighed.
The study revealed that more than one third population of Ahmedabad is at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sedentary lifestyle and Obesity are the major factor that provoking the high risk in research.
