Effectiveness of Brandt Daroff exercises in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo: a systematic review

Abstract

To gather the literature available on Brandt Daroff exercises in order to explore its effectiveness in BPPV patients.

PubMed and Cochrane.

RCT's focusing on Brandt Daroff exercises as management of BPPV, articles published in English language till July 2021.

Brandt Daroff exercises either alone or in combination with other repositioning manoeuvres as management of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.

13 articles out of 344 articles were included in the study and the result showed that 3 studies supported the effectiveness of Brandt Daroff exercises in BPPV patients. While 3 studies reported its effectiveness indirectly and concluded that it was effective as other repositioning manoeuvres. 4 studies did not favour Brandt Daroff exercises and 3 studies were related to the rate of recurrence of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo associated with Brandt Daroff exercises.

Brandt Daroff exercises are an effective manoeuvre in improving the symptoms of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo patients.
