Abstract

Tennis players require high level of balance, agility and power of lower limb muscles in order to enhance their performance. Core training on unstable surfaces has proved to improve all these parameters but there is limited evidence.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of Swiss ball training and BOSU ball training on dynamic balance, agility and power in tennis players.

Thirty male and female tennis players were randomly divided into 2 groups: Swiss ball training (n=15) and BOSU ball training (n=15). Both groups underwent their respective training sessions for 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Outcome measures were SEBT for dynamic balance, t-test for Agility and vertical jump test for measuring power.

Both Swiss ball and BOSU ball had significant improvement in balance, agility and power of tennis players. However, there was no significant difference between two groups in balance, agility and power of tennis players (p>0.05).

Swiss ball and BOSU ball both can be used in tennis players for improving balance, power and agility.
