Abstract

Sensory processing deficits frequently concurs with motor deficits in children with Cerebral palsy which affect their level of functioning. Child Sensory Profile-2 Caregivers Questionnaire is a validated tool, but its standardization for Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy has yet to be reported.

There is no validated measure for assessing sensory processing in children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy and therefore, the authors validated the Child Sensory Profile-2 in Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy.

Caregivers of 56 children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy completed the Child Sensory Profile-2 caregiver questionnaire. Face validity, Content Validity, Internal Consistency and split half reliability was calculated using SPSS software version 16.0.

Face validity was found to be appropriate by most experts. Six items in the questionnaire had CVI less than 0.7 and were removed from the questionnaire. The internal consistency of all the items of questionnaire together was 0.913 measured by Cronbach's alpha. The split half reliability for Part-1 and Part-2 was 0.862 and 0.857 respectively. The correlation between two halves of the questionnaire was found 0.650 indicating moderate level of correlation. The Spearman-Brown Coefficient and Guttman Split-Half Coefficient were 0.788.

The Child Sensory Profile-2 caregiver questionnaire is a validated tool for Children with Spastic Cerebral Palsy for identifying sensory processing dysfunctions. Sensory integration process plays important role for motor function and the presence of such important disturbances (sensory deficits) draw the consideration to the implementation of sensory therapies which improve function in these children.
