There are so many evidence on the effect of Kinesio taping on balance, gait and range of motion but that was on athletic population. As we know, Gait is a major component to assess in geriatric population as well. In my knowledge, no study has been found to see the short-term effect of Kinesio taping on ankle in geriatric population. Considering the prevalence of fall, impaired balance, ankle instability and impaired proprioception, they can hinder activity of daily living. Kinesio tape has not been studied for that purpose.
To examine the Short-Term effect of Bilateral Ankle Balance Taping on Gait and Range of motion in Community Dwelling Elderly Population.
A sample of convenience of 30 subjects were assessed for inclusions and exclusion criteria. A duly designed informed consent will be obtained from the subjects who are willing to participate. The subjects were then be divided into following two groups. The experimental group was given ankle Kinesio tape bilaterally. In the control group, sham tape (adhesive tape) was given. Gait and ankle range of motion was assessed under following condition: Baseline (without application of taping), immediately after taping and after 7th day of application of tape by using Dynamic Gait Index (to assess the Gait) and Inclinometer (to assess the Range of motion).
There was significant difference between groups on gait by increasing the scores of Dynamic gait index after tape application and changes in Ankle Range of Motion before and after tape application.
