Abstract

Distribution of body weight is a significant factor influencing postural stability and is one of the measures of balance, to quantify the extent of deficiency in postural control of stroke survivors. Feedback enhances learning a new task, improves performance and motivation. Knowledge of results (KR) and knowledge of performance (KP) are types of extrinsic feedback.

To compare Manual Guidance (MG) and Knowledge of Performance (KP) training in healthy young subjects; reducing error percentage: Immediately, After a day and After a week of training.

Sixty subjects participated in the study and were randomly allocated into two groups and assigned the task of distributing their weight at 70:30 ratio between their feet, which was tested for ability of retention in: Ten minutes, one day and one week of practicing.

Both the groups were analyzed depending on manual guidance and knowledge of performance received, respectively, and found to demonstrate significant differences (p<0.01). Group analysis was done using one way ANOVA. There was a significant difference in MG and KP values between pre and post mean differences.

There was a noteworthy difference between immediate and after one week values in Manual Guidance group. There was minor difference in the decrease of error rate in post 10 minutes and post one day results and both the group bore same level of retention of weight bearing capacity.
