Abstract

The sensory examination includes tests for light touch, temperature, position sense, vibration and discriminative senses. Sensory examination is used to determine areas of abnormal sensation, the severity and type of sensory impairment.

The basic purpose of this is to review the different parameters of sensory examination via a assessment tool which makes sensory examination quick and easier.

A tool which includes different types of equipment like electric brushes, different textures, thermal equipment etc. which makes sensory examination easier and provide all necessary tools of sensory examination as per the testing protocol. With the help of this assessment chart one can easily perform sensory examination for light-touch (Using your fingertips or a wisp of cotton, lightly stroke the skin and determine if the patient feels this symmetrically in all areas tested), temperature (To test cold sensation, apply the cool tines of your tuning fork to the skin in the areas. To test warm sensation, use a glass tube or other container filled with warm water), position sense (With the patient's eyes closed, test his ability to determine the direction of movement as you move the tested part upward or downward), vibration (Test vibratory sense on each side, using a 128 Hz or 256 Hz tuning fork, by placing the vibrating fork on the boney prominence of a finger or toe) and discriminative senses (like: two-point discrimination, stereognosis and graphesthesia. These tests are dependent on the patient having a normal sense of touch).

At the end this can be concluded that Sensory examination framework is effective way of examine the sensory integration system in the easy and quick manner.
