Diabetes risk assessment in Ahmedabad population using Indian diabetic risk score#

Abstract

In today's era, the burden of diabetes has increased exponentially, due to rapid urbanization. Thus, early identification of diabetes risk should be done to prevent and spread risk of diabetes among population.

To find diabetes risk in population of Ahmedabad.

A cross sectional study was done in Ahmedabad. Data of 353 adult individuals was collected where the age ranged from 18–80 years. Both male and female filled the Indian diabetic risk score through Google form survey. An Indian Diabetes Risk Score screens for risk factors including age, waist circumference, physical activity, and family history.

According to conducted study it was found that the overall people are at high risk of diabetes In Ahmedabad 38.24% (135) were found to have high risk diabetes whereas 58.07% (205) had moderate risk, and 3.68% (13) were considered to have low risk to contract Diabetes. Out of 38.24% (135) who were at high risk of diabetes 48.48% (66) belonged to the age group of 18–30 years. From the total 353 individuals, 191(54.10%) of population had sedentary lifestyle and 153(43.34%) participants were overweighed.

The study revealed that more than one third population of Ahmedabad is at high risk of developing diabetes mellitus. Sedentary lifestyle and Obe sity are the major factor that provoking the high risk in research.
