Health management information system is often touted as a “midas-touch ” solution to cover up for the umpteen errors and inadequacies in the data that is captured in healthcare organizations. What usually get ignored by the data entry owners are the snowball effect of poor quality data on the management information reports and its ultimate effect on the balance sheet. Another fallacy that is often responsible for failure of Health information projects is the gap between the real and perceived conceptualization of the design of information system. If we have to let the continuum of data-information-knowledge-wisdom evolve on its own, we have to ensure the quality of input data along with efforts in minimizing the gap between design and reality.
