Semantic web and libraries: A scientometric assessment of global publications output during 1998–2019

Abstract

The paper provides a quantitative and qualitative description of "Semantic Web and Libraries" research based on global publications output (1193 publications) in the field as indexed in the Scopus database covering the 22 years 1998–2019. The research on "Semantic Web and Libraries" registered 25.85% growth per annum and averaged 5.75 citations per paper in 22 years, and bulk of global output (81.89%) and more than 100% citations global share in the field emanates from just the top 10 countries. The paper further provides an insight into the qualitative performance of research on "Semantic Web and Libraries" in terms of relative citation index, citations per paper, highly cited papers, top 30 global organizations, and 25 authors in the field, most favored subjects in the field.
