Scientific productivity keeps tremendous importance concerning the published output of the world literature in all areas of subjects. It is the result of the creativity of human beings. The review paper traces the history of scientific productivity from its inception to the Web of Science. The study finds the age of researchers, library facility and support, gender, language, the burden of teaching and administrative tasks, departmental size and prestige, research funding, personal traits of the researchers, self-efficacy, organization factors, research collaboration, subject discipline, the creativity of the researchers, national impact, academic position, tenure and reward structure affecting scientific productivity of the researchers. The study found that these factors affect the individual positively or negatively.
