The interlibrary loan (ILL) system is a system that allows readers to borrow books and other materials from other libraries when they are unavailable in their libraries. This system has been instrumental in the last century. Still, books and other papers are now readily available online and in PDF format, which can be transferred to required readers or libraries in a fraction of a minute. So, the system for lending books and other materials has become less effective. However, as electronic documents are costly, they have developed, particularly e-books, a new method for lending out books. The paper discusses this emerging concept and its usage in libraries and information centers.
