Abstract

An online survey questionnaire was designed using Google Forms to collect data from around 130 academic librarians and LIS teachers in the Universities and college Libraries in one Indian state (i.e. Odisha). The primary purpose of this study is to determine the preferences and practices of Library and Information Science (LIS) Professionals of Odisha (one of the states in India) in publishing an open-access system.LIS professionals’ consideration of factors for selecting open-access journals for submitting their research work for Publication, the percentage of their Publication made in open-access publishing systems, self-archiving habits of LIS professionals, etc., have been explored in the study. One hundred sixteen responses from working professionals were received online and offline. The results show that most authors have less than 25 % of publications in OA during the last five years. Most of them choose a journal to publish their manuscript based on the scope or relevance of the journal (53.44) to their manuscript and the journal impact factor (50%). Only 31.90% of LIS professionals consider a Journal as their publishing venue based on the openness of the Journals. It was found that most respondents selfarchive their full text for Publication through disciplinary repositories and research networking sites (54.31 % and 32.76).
