Research Trends and Scholarly Communication at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute, Kochi: A Bibliometric Study

The present study analyses a total to 962 research publications of the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) indexed in the Scopus database during 2021- 2025 using bibliometric and scientometric tools and techniques such as Bibliometrix, Biblioshiny, Python, and VOSviewer. The study aims examine publication growth, citation impact, document types, core sources, productive authors, institutional collaborations, funding agencies, and keyword trends. The data shows that journal articles dominated the research output, while the Indian Journal of Fisheries emerged as the leading publication source. The study identified strong collaborative research practices and significant support from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. Analysis of keywords indicated major research focus areas including marine fisheries, aquaculture, biodiversity conservation, climate change, and sustainability. Overall, the study shows the significant contribution of CMFRI to marine fisheries and allied sciences research in India.
