Abstract

Technology like consortia in Karnataka, one of the southern states in India, are still infancy and there is a need to study these models and establish guidelines and technologies. The concept of consortia is sharing of information with common way. The financiers and administrators of those organizations participating in the consortium should extend their full support to their libraries for a meaningful cooperation. In Karnataka, there appears to be a rather strange situation where, some of the well established libraries are administered by individuals who are not librarians by profession. These individuals need to be more aware of the challenging situations of information metamorphosis and the users requirement, which is dynamic. If they do not involve themselves completely with the library practices and services those libraries will be left behind in the national scene. Even the libraries managed by professional librarians need to develop the skills to convince their administrators and policy makers to get their support for their commitment in any group activities.
