Creating Institutional Repositories: An Essential Tool for Engineering College Libraries

Institutional repositories are becoming essential tools for engineering college libraries. How could they be otherwise, when they provide the solution to a number of issues critical to the future functioning of these institutions? It is a prosaic part of the vision for repositories, focusing on institutional advantages and benefits. The Engineering College libraries play a significant role in supplementing and complementing the research facilities, dissemination of information from the print and electronics media through various electronics formats. The computer and telecommunication technology has made easier to access the valuable information through internet. The present study is designed to find out how many engineering colleges in Bhubaneswar, Odisha have taken initiation to satisfy the user need. Out of fifty seven engineering colleges a questionnaire was designed and distributed among seven engineering colleges, which are established ten years back. In this context, the present study has been undertaken which confines to only seven Engineering Colleges, which are established more than ten years back.
