Abstract

Today Information scientists are considered to be the most valuable job title in the field of Information Science & Computing. An Information Scientist is a person who is basically engaged in information activities and discharges his/her duty through various tools and technologies. In this article we discuss why information scientists are needed, their traditional and contemporary roles and responsibilities. This article also describes the appropriate courses available for this profession in India. Probably first time in the world the papers tries to solve the recruitment and engagement related problem of information scientist by SWOT analysis of the academic programme related with information science. Finally an explanation is rendered why information science is the right and most sought after course or degree programme for the post of information scientist in Indian perspective.
