The present day library user community is coming across an ever dynamic and complex learning environment in the university libraries, due to ICT applications. The exponential growth of documents in digital formats, subscriptions to electronic databases in addition to print, are changing the expectations of users, their needs, preferences, approaches and constraints, etc. Since, the information concerning their use will help the libraries to develop good collection and to improve the services, the libraries are adapting several methods such as surveys, interactions, and the latest usage data for evaluating electronic databases, to get such information. Thus an analytical study was undertaken by taking usage reports of Sciencedirect database in IGM Library, University of Hyderabad to find out the benefits in terms of core and peripheral journals; to observe its usage pattern; and to find out the relationship between the number of available journals and their usage. Finally the study examines the university user's perspectives on Science Direct database. The results indicate that the database was extensively used in terms of downloads and access methods.
