Internet Usage by the Teachers and the Students of Two Technical Colleges of Gujarat: A Comparative Study

This paper provides a brief introduction of Internet. The questionnaire method was used to collect data from the teachers & students of two self finance institutes (SFI) of Gujarat. The data were collected from 38 teachers of Parul Institute of Engineering & Technology (PIET) out of 50 & 36 teachers of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Technology (SVIT) out of 50. In the same way data were collected from 70 students of PIET out of 100 and 65 students of SVIT out of 100. The aim of this study was to analyze the use of the Internet and related issues among the teachers and students of Self Finance Engineering Colleges of Gujarat, India. It was intended in the present survey for internet such as, experience of internet use, amount of time spent for internet, most frequently used location for internet use, purpose for internet used, use of internet services, use of internet resources, ways to browse information from the internet, favorite search engine. Internet had brought dramatic changes in the generation, communication and dissemination of information. It was found that the internet mostly used for education, research, teaching and communication purpose. Some suggestions have been set forth to make the service more beneficial for the academic community of the engineering colleges under study.
