Abstract

Public library is of the people, by the people and for the people’. As above mentioned statement explains that a public library is made by the people and it is for the use of people and of course, it belongs to the people. Public libraries are expected to convert potential users to actual users. Public libraries are much more than a collection of books, they play a central role in many communities. This paper deals with the role of public libraries in the society and its objectives. How the public libraries are helpful in community development process. Paper highlights the information and communication technological impact on services offered by the public libraries. Analytical study of T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, their services and role in the society is also described here.
