Abstract

The paper aims to explore the availability and growth of online open access journals in the field of Environmental Sciences archived on the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) and explores said journals from various perspectives like countrywise distribution, language-wise distribution, format etc. The DOAJ contains about 153 open access journals published from 40 different countries in 17 different languages all over the world and United States is found to be the leading publishing country. Moreover, English has been found as the most popular language of OA journals, 84% of journals are available in print format still in the field of Environmental Sciences. Out of 153 journals all of them have functional homepages and 91 journals are such for whom Table of Contents have been made available on the DOAJ website.
