This study analysed 61 articles in which 1133 citations were appended, published during the time span of 2010–2017 in the Journal of the University Librarians Association (JULA) of Sri Lanka. The overall objective of this study was to identify the current citation patterns of Sri Lankan Library and Information Science (LIS) researchers spanning their most preferred format of citation, chronological distribution of cited material, highly preferred journals, authorship pattern and the degree of collaboration. A quantitative analysis was performed on the data extracted from reference lists of each article using Ms Excel spreadsheets. The chronological distribution of cited material showed that LIS researchers had mostly utilized material published within the time span of 2001–2010. The Journal of Academic Librarianship topped the ranked list of journals. Furthermore, more than half (56.968%) of the cited material were multi-author contributions whereas the degree of collaboration was 0.57. This study renders valuable insight into the current citation nature of scholarly output in the Sri Lankan LIS field. The study findings could be used to further develop JULA as well as to make important decisions on collection development.
